Michael Shorer was born in
Essex. He trained at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London and in 1980 was awarded
a Diploma and Advanced City and Guilds in the Design and Craftsmanship of Jewellery. His
course work was exhibited at Goldsmiths' Hall, the Tony Laws Gallery and Argenta.
After managing his own
workshop Michael Shorer joined Theo Fennell in 1983 and became workshop manager in 1986.
In 1988 he was made responsible for their additional workshop in Putney which concentrated
on special projects and larger commissions. Much of this production was for the Theo
Fennell outlets in London, Tiffany, New York and Mitsukoshi, Japan.
In 1990 Michael Shorer
opened his own workshop in Essex and moved in 1995 to East Sussex. He also works closely
with his father, Peter Shorer and museums world-wide carrying out restoration work and
reproducing copies of pieces from the museums' collections. He has designed and made
the major trophies for the Matchroom sports organisation as well as a number of television
awards. He works in a number ofdifferent materials and his larger sculptures were on
show at the Inspirations exhibition as part of theBrighton Festival in 1998.
He began his collaboration
with Lord Snowdon in 1995, which resulted in his commission for The Silver Trust.
