Jane Short was first introduced to enamels in 1974 while training to be a jeweller at the Central Scholl of Art & Design. She then spent three years at the Royal College of Art studying silversmithing and furthering her exploration of enamelling techniques.
Jane Short divides her time between producing enamel work for commissions and exhibition, teaching enamelling and enamel work for other silversmiths.
Her present work combines the techniques of engraving enamelling in the form of champleve and basse taille. This produces a rich painterly effect to her work and recent work has concentrated on geometric or abstract patterns with contrasting areas of engraved metal.
Jane Short has work in many leading collections in United Kingdom such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, Crafts Council and the national Museum of Scotland her commissions include the Millennium Bridge Commemorative Piece, Lichfield Cathedral and Lambeth Palace Chapel Restoration Fund. Jane Short is a Freeman of he Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.
