Robert Welch (1929-2000)
was born in Hereford. He studied under Victor Moody at the Malvern School of Art and under
C. J. Shiner and R. Baxendale at Birmingham College of Art, also the Royal College of
Art under Professor Robert Goodden.
In 1955 he established
his own studio and workshop in Chipping Campden and at a later date opened his own design
retail outlets.
For the first seven years
of his training, Robert Welch studied painting, drawing and silversmithing. He has since
become well known as both silversmith and product designer. He was elected a Royal Designer
for Industry in 1965 and has received numerous design awards.
Robert Welch's work can
be seen in collections throughout the world, these include Goldsmiths' Company, where
he is a Liveryman, the British Ambassador's residence in Manila, the Victoria and Albert
Museum and the British Museum.
